Mojave-Tropico Loop (58 miles; <500 feet elevation gain)

I did this ride with Steve and Rick on 03/07/2009. It was an incredible windless day, and if you're looking for a flat ride, you've found your match! I was originally introduced to this ride by the guys at Gil's bike shop. They called it the desert metric (because it can be easily extended to roughly 100km) and it is a great ride if you would rather ride NS than EW. The general idea is to head up 90th West to Backus Rd. and then return via Mojave-Tropico Rd. and 60th West. (Be careful on 90th...the lack of shoulder can be painful...check out the .kml file to find out where I crashed.) A couple of neat things about this ride is the little side trip through Willow Springs (<10 buildings, but all made from stone or adobe) and the descent on Mojave-Tropico Rd. (which is really a lot of fun). Plus, you'll also find that LA county does a slightly better job maintaining roads than Kern county. For the Google Earth datafile, right click and save as desert_metric.kml to download the coordinates.
